Lighting system based on long-life fluorescent lamps and high-performance reflectors at Fibro GmbH
Information
How innovative lighting reflects a company’s ‘green’ mood
- A lighting refit with much more at stake than energy savings
- Efficient light renders over 50 % energy savings
- Investment of € 631 000 saves € 126 770 pa, with payback within 5 years
Fibro GmbH is a German company that has been active in the field of standard parts and rotary indexing tables for nearly 70 years.
Good-quality lighting in the production plant and offices is essential both for productivity and safety. But with high associated costs, the company decided it was time to explore energy efficient alternatives.
Following an expert audit in two locations, contractors were employed to replace inefficient mercury vapour lamps with T5 long- life fluorescent ones. All lamps were equipped with high-performance reflectors to boost the lighting quality.
With these reflectors, Fibro was able to halve the power needed for each lamp and increase the luminous efficiency by 38 %.
Key results
The refit cut energy use for lighting by roughly 800 000 kWh per year, which is around half (51 %) the previous average annual consumption.
The total cost to the company was around € 631 000. The yearly energy savings are estimated at around € 126 770, which is equivalent to a five-year payback on initial investment.
Maintenance costs of the new system are also lower than before. The life span of the fluorescent lamps is several times longer than the old lamps, which cuts future expenses as well.
