Institute of Photonics
Institute of Photonics

Finland: North and East Finland

Overview

The Institute of Photonics coordinates all photonics activity within the University of Eastern Finland (UEF).

Researchers come from the Department of Physics and Mathematics, the Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences and School of Computing in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry.

The photonics research personnel consist of over 20 professors and visiting professors, ca. 30 senior scientists and post docs, and over 30 PhD and ca. 40 MSc students. It is the largest academic unit of photonics in Finland. It is internationally well-recognized, for example, for its contributions to diffractive and micro-optics and nanophotonics (design, manufacturing, and applications), guided-wave optics, optical coherence theory, nonlinear optics, and polarization optics as well as spectromics (imaging plants and environment) and spectral color research. It has a long history on strong collaboration with industry within, e.g. TEKES (Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation) programs… Characterization laboratory
